ST PETER’S CE PRIMARY SCHOOL
SPORTS FUNDING
At St Peter’s CE Primary School, we trust that Physical Education contributes significantly to children’s learning and development across physical, social, emotional and cognitive domains; putting it at the centre of wellbeing and achievement in education.
When Early Years and Primary Physical Education are taught effectively - we believe -young people can discover the joy of movement and nurture happy active lifestyles.
Our curriculum encompasses a wide range of physical activities - Athletics, Gymnastics, Outdoor Education, Swimming and Dance lessons - that aim to physically motivate and inspire our children. We are committed to delivering at least two hours of high-quality, well-planned Physical Education every week taught by outstanding sports specialists. Furthermore, we endeavour to ensure all our children are undertaking the government’s guidelines, at least 30 minutes, of physical activity a day in school.
As a school, we focus on a developmental, inclusive and safe approach, where children’s acquisition of fundamental movement skills is of high priority. We believe that physical education, experienced in a safe, engaging and supportive environment, is a significant factor in developing our children’s physical competence and confidence.
At St Peter’s, we encourage children to participate in competitive sports by entering competitions and tournaments within the borough. This year we strive to enter a range of friendly games and in-school competitions to give all children the opportunity to play sports regardless of ability or experience.
Aside from competitive games, we promote sports through a variety of early morning and after-school clubs at the school; we offer the opportunity for children from Reception up to Year 6 to participate in Hockey, Karate, Tag-Rugby, Fencing, Tennis, Running, Dance, Yoga, Football and Netball clubs.
